Our History

In 1979, H. Lee Forbes founded H.L. Forbes, Inc., specializing in the restoration of Asheville’s historic homes.  At that time, the olde world slate mechanics were beginning to retire.  Mr. Forbes worked with these master craftsmen as a student to hone his skills and learn trade secrets which had been passed down for centuries.  H. L. Forbes , Inc. quickly grew to be Asheville’s premier restorer and installer of historic slate and tile.  In high demand, the company expanded into new installation and custom copper work. 

 

In 1999, Paul Wiederhold joined the company and apprenticed under Mr. Forbes.  Within a few years, Mr. Wiederhold assumed the role of Vice President of the corporation.  In 2006, Mr. Wiederhold bought the assets of H.L. Forbes, Inc as Mr. Forbes relocated to West Virginia.  With new leadership, the company was renamed Olde World Masters, Inc. and continued in the tradition of fine workmanship for which H.L. Forbes was known.  Olde World Masters is a firm specializing in old world craftsmanship, but managed with a new world modern approach.  Old fashioned values; honesty, integrity, and quality customer service blend with the latest in technology.
